Comprehensive hands-on training program, with in-clinic mentoring
Medical trainees are put through an intensive program of one-on-one mentoring and are supported in their training with a full suite of academically referenced digital learning content as they progress on a 24 month journey. The course culminates with a series of written and practical examinations leaving our clinicians prepared for a career of safe, successful practice. This is why almost 100 doctors have so far chosen this path with the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine.
Integral to the online learning is the multi-faceted program comprising compulsory practical workshops offering extensive “hands-on” practical training as well as in-clinic training and mentoring, attendance at accredited conferences and meetings, participation in Journal Club meetings and a world-class online training module. An additional optional requirement is the production of a clinical research paper or review article for publication to a journal acceptable to the College. The course requirements can be achieved over eighteen months. Any extension of time will only be granted in exceptional circumstances as approved by the ACCSM Council.
Modules include, injectables, laser, threads, dermatological and skin care, regulatory compliance.
Candidates are selected as a result of an application process. Candidates must be registered as medical practitioners with AHPRA. Candidates must have a minimum of five years’ post graduate experience in Clinical Medicine or Surgery, (excludes Medical Administration and Psychiatry). All applications must be deemed appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of the ACCSM. Application fee cost = $330 (inclusive of GST).

Candidates who successfully complete all other elements will be invited to sit the final examinations. The examinations consist of a Written MCQ type examination, practical examination and a viva voce examination. Once successful completion of all elements is achieved, you will be invited to apply for Fellowship with the College.
Cosmetic Surgery trainees are required to pass the Faculty of Cosmetic Medicine Examination.
Description
The objective of the MCQ Cosmetic Medicine Examination is to assess a trainee’s competency and required level of knowledge and understanding of Anatomy as it applies to cosmetic medical practice and to assess core knowledge such as non-invasive treatments, aspects of basic training, and acquisition of core concepts. The examination is 2 hours in duration and is made up of 100 Single-Best Answer MCQs, aligning with best practice.
Application Process
The ACCSM Education Officer invites eligible trainees to sit the MCQ examination. This examination runs biannually in February and October, in Sydney.
Attempts
Trainees have a maximum of two attempts to successfully complete the MCQ Examination within a 12-month timeframe. This rule applies regardless of the trainee’s full-time equivalent (FTE) status. If the trainee is unsuccessful after two attempts, the ACCSM will liaise with the preceptor and consider remedial training actions under the ACCSM Remediation in Training Policy.
Pass mark/Marking System
The exam pass mark is set using the modified Angoff standard setting methodology.
Notification and Results
Exams are marked manually, and results issued usually within one week of sitting the examination. Trainees are notified of their result via email. If the result is a fail, they will be invited to sit the next examination event. Candidates are allowed two consecutive attempts.
Examination registration costs are included in training fees. Attendees are required to cover their own travel expenses to attend.
Practical exaination will assess in clinic skills.
Cosmetic Medical trainees are required to pass the Faculty of Cosmetic Medicine Viva Voce Examination.
Description
The viva is an oral exam (approx. 20 to 30 minutes), typically the examiners may present scenarios, cases and photos and ask questions in relation to these.
The primary objective is to ascertain how the candidate approaches a patient, assess and treat the presenting problem.
Application Process
The ACCSM Education Officer invites eligible trainees to sit the VIVA examination.
Attempts
Trainees are afforded two consecutive attempts at the VIVA.
Notification and Results
Candidates are notified of their result usually within one week of the exam completion via email. Trainees will be invited to sit the next available sitting, if the result is a fail.
Due to the small trainee numbers, the ACCSM sets the VIVA examination date based on demand and candidate eligibility.

The above must be attended during training.
All fees quoted are inclusive of GST.
Training cost = $33,000 including GST. This cost includes, examination fees, workshop fees, online subscription to learning modules and one complimentary attendance to the College scientific conference, Cosmetex.
A deposit of $10,000 is required prior to commencement to hold a position on the program. The balance of fees may be paid immediately prior to commencement of training or credit card details may be provided for ten equivalent monthly deductions.
